included a two-year military leave early in his career;<br />
when he served as a lieutenant in the - .S. Army Corps<br />
of Engineers.<br />
During his career ; runy held a variety of positions<br />
in engineering; pro;ect management and management.<br />
Ma;or pro;ects at ; abcock ; Wilcox included the<br />
design; fabrication and testing of components for<br />
nuclear steam supply systems for commercial utilities;<br />
the - .S. Department of Energy;s ; reeder Reactor Program;<br />
and various efforts for the - .S. Department of<br />
Defense. ; runy also participated in the evaluation of<br />
business opportunities in superconductivity and distributed<br />
power generation; led a team in the design of<br />
support systems for a proposed uranium enrichment facility; and managed a team<br />
responsible for the design; fabrication and testing of superconducting magnet systems<br />
for use at a national laboratory.<br />
An ASME member; ; runy began serving on ; oiler and Pressure . essel ;; P. ; Code<br />
committees in 1; ; ; as a member of the Task Force on Faulted Conditions; and; in 1; ; ; ;<br />
he became a member of the Working ; roup on . essels. Over the years he has been a<br />
member of the Subgroup on Component Design; a Special Working ; roup on Environmental<br />
Effects on Fatigue; the Subgroup on Design Methods; the Subcommittee on<br />
Design ;; P. III;; the ; P. Committee on Construction of Nuclear Facility Components<br />
;III; and the ; P. III Executive Committee. He served as secretary and chair of the<br />
Working ; roup on . essels and as chair of the Subgroup on Design Methods. His<br />
recent efforts have focused on the evaluation and incorporation of methods to assess<br />
the effects of the light water reactor environment on fatigue; and on the consolidation<br />
and modernization of the rules for design by analysis in Section III of the ; P. Code.<br />
