Product-oriented packaging needs
flexible solutions
Sweets and snacks manufacturers
need flexible process solutions in
order to be able to adapt to the
different product demands. The
exhibitors at ProSweets Cologne
will be occupying themselves in
Cologne intensively with this
situation from 29 January to 1
February 2017 and will, for
instance, offer interested parties
concepts for efficient packing
plants of modular design. Selfregulating
and with systems that
enable fast format changes, they
allow the producers to keep up pace
with the ever shorter product life
cycles.
There is a particularly large variety
of products in the sweets and
snacks industry. Furthermore,
numerous innovations enrich the
consumers’ selection every year.
On top of that there are seasonal
items for Halloween, Christmas and
Easter. This offers the sweets and
snacks manufacturers lots of room
for creative ideas, but also requires
fast and successful adaptations in
production. More and more
frequently different products have
to be made on the same production
line. The format changes that are
necessary for this demand flexibility
in the primary and secondary
packing of the sweets and snacks.
The mechanical engineers
consistently react to this demand
with modular packing lines, which
allow the integration of further
modules and tools for high
production volumes or further
formats at any time.
Sweets packed in a bag
From filled chocolates and balls, to
hollow figures or flat products,
through to bars, the servo driveassisted
and modular tubular bag
machines and fold wrapping
machines pack everything that can
be filled, wrapped or folded inside
packing material. The systems are
equipped with a wide format area to
enable an economical packing
process. Fast change devices are
the key to more efficiency here.
They allow the packing machines to
be reset for new packing styles and
products within a few minutes. On
selecting the format set, the
parameters are set in the control
unit and the tool change starts in a
fully-automatic process – indeed
without any additional start-up
period for the fine adjustment. This
applies for packing filled chocolates
and bonbons in twistwraps as well
as for packing chocolate and bars in
flowpacks.
Avoid errors in spite of higher
performance
In order to rule out errors occurring
during the automatic format
resetting process, the latest
generation of plants are more and
more frequently self-regulating. An
important prerequisite for this is
that they are linked up to the
upstream and downstream system
components. In the case of the
plants of Fuji Packaging, for
instance, an integrated scanner
checks the print image of the
packing materials for compatibility
with the batch number. The
communication between the camera
and the machine thus avoids faulty
flowpacks. With the F series of
LoeschPack, intelligent process
technology in the sealing module
area ensures greater efficiency.
Depending on the application and
the format area, the highperformance
flowpack platform
achieves an output of up to 1,500
products per minute, and the
processing of both hot and cold
sealing film is possible. Thanks to
its self-regulating sealing
technology, there are less rejections
when changing the speed during
operation or when the machine is
stopped and started.
