From Gallaecia to the Euro-Region<br />

In architecture, new trends had<br />

in Galicia artistis of the standing of<br />

Antonio Palacios, author, among<br />

others, of the Veracruz temple<br />

in O Carballiño. An architecture<br />

characterized for its monumentality,<br />

which was very influenced by the<br />

architectural regilianism. Also big artists<br />

such as Manuel Gallego Jorreto or<br />

Rafael Baltar, and with them, important<br />

contributions such as the Ciudad de la<br />

Cultura, the Gaiás, by Perer Eisenman,<br />

the cemetery of Finisterra by César<br />

Portela, the offices of the ministry<br />

of Development by Aturo Franco or<br />

the Muncyt in A Coruña, or the Vigo<br />

campus by Miralles, among others.<br />

But it was in the north of Portugal<br />

where this field led the way, thanks to<br />

Álvar de Siza. His work was closely<br />

linked to his hometown, Matosinhos.<br />

This is why it was one of the<br />

paradigms of the 20th century<br />

architecture. His main works in the<br />

city are the Casa de Chá da Boa<br />

Nova (1956), and the Piscina das<br />

Marés (1960-1966).<br />
