Video use is
increasing in
getting data
A recent survey conducted by
test and measurement company
HBM found that video use
is accelerating in data collection.
The study shows that almost
half of the respondents (47%)
already use video in data
recording today, while 54%
of the respondents expect video
use within their organisation to
increase in the next year.
TACTILE SENSORS
Video cameras are already used
in many test and measurement
applications throughout the
industry in addition to data
collection with traditional tactile
sensors. But until now, there has
been very little information on the
level and nature of this use.
“There is no longer any question
that recording video data in parallel
to tactile sensors or digital bus
signals is becoming more and
more attractive to users,” says
Christof Salcher, product manager
instrumentation at HBM.
“Video supports traditional sensor
data and is becoming a valuable
source of additional information,
making the room for interpretation
even narrower in testing.”
ADDITIONAL INPUT
The survey showed that the most
common reason for using video in
data collection is to gain additional
input analysing unexpected
deviations (73%). Other common
reasons are decision finding (50%)
and visualisation of results to
management (41%).
Regular video (such as
webcams) is by far the most
common equipment for video in
data collection. In the survey, 80%
of respondents use this type.
“As the tactile and non-tactile
worlds of data collection come
together, there is not a question
of using either video or traditional
sensor data - but both,” says
Salcher. “HBM is well positioned
to face a growing demand in this
area, already integrating video in
a range of our applications.”
New Industry 4.0 course
will equip future leaders
Festo Training & Consulting
has launched its first
Industry 4.0 course.
It is designed to equip
business leaders with the
strategic skills and insights
to make the most of the
opportunities presented by
the fourth industrial
revolution where the ready
availability of data and the
standardisation of machine
communication will enable
new and disruptive business
models to emerge.
Over two days, Festo’s
course will assist leaders to
identify opportunities for
change within their own
workplaces and help them
recognise how and where
to apply the principles of
Industry 4.0.
Whether participants are
considering a new factory or
plant and want to understand
the principles behind
Industry 4.0 or whether
they are looking to apply
certain aspects within the
current limitations of existing
processes, this course will
help them take a big step
forward, says Festo.
The course runs either as an
Pharmaceutical packaging
machine company Uhlmann
Packaging Systems
has acquired Cremer
Speciaalmachines, the Dutch
manufacturer of counting and
packaging systems. The two
family-owned companies will
combine their technological,
research and market
development expertise.
By acquiring Cremer,
Uhlmann strengthens its
market position in bottle
packaging systems.
Festo’s two day 4.0 course helps leaders identify opportunities for change
open course for participants
from different companies
or as an in-company course
across an organisation or from
within a department.
Dates of the open courses
this year are:
• 12/13 September 2017
• 24/25 October 2017
• 14/15 November 2017.
All open courses will be held
at Festo in Northampton, while
Acquisition brings together two specialists
in the pharmaceutical machinery business
Talents of two pharma firms combine
Tobias Uhlmann, owner
and chairman of the Uhlmann
supervisory board said:
“The respective expertise of
Festo can also run in-company
courses in any location.
“Working in small groups
and teams, the course is
for leaders who want to
make better investment
decisions that will equip their
organisations for the future,”
our company’s complements
each other perfectly, and by
bundling up our talents, we
will drive the goals of both
companies forward.”
“It was important for me
to hand my company over to
a highly competent partner
with a long-term interest
in its health and continued
development,” says
Fred Cremer, owner of
Cremer Speciaalmachines.
“In this sense, we have found
