Realising a
virtual world
for engineers
Lenze is serving up its latest
drive and automation concepts
for a virtual world with
demonstrations showing how
virtual reality (VR) can give
engineers an insight to the
operation of complex mechanics
and software, leading to faster
machine development.
Visitors who participate in a
demonstration can take away
their personal smartphone
VR viewer. Lenze engineers will
also explain new options for
data acquisition, analysis and
storage of a machine’s operating
data in the Cloud along with
remote support communication
technologies for predictive
maintenance.
The company is using
VR technology more and more
as an effective engineering and
training tool. The company
believes the main potential of
VR lies in making it easier to deal
with the growing complexity
of machine automation, by
giving programmers and design
engineers live experience of their
applications through a digital
twin (a digital virtual copy of the
design that is put together in
parallel with the real machine).
Evaluating the digital twin
before the machine design is fixed
gives a sense of depth and scale
that cannot be achieved with a
2D monitor. Design projects are
speeded, safety can be enhanced
through virtual simulation, and
software such as the Lenze FAST
modules can be fine-tuned for
optimum performance.
On the stand, machine
manufacturers can also discover
what Industry 4.0 and the
Internet of Things (IoT) can do
for their business model. Lenze
has joined forces with the IoT
specialist ei3 Corporation to offer
a combination of remote analysis
of machine performance and also
remote predictive maintenance.

Efaflex is exhibiting three
of its high speed doors for
industrial and commercial
applications at co-located
plastics show Interplas
(NEC halls 4 and 3a).
Each of the three doors is
designed with a specific role in
mind but all incorporating the
product innovation and easily
identifiable build quality.
The EFA- STR high speed
turbo door offers a patented
spiral design and door opening
speeds of 4 metres per second,
while the EFA- SST is a high

controlled motors provide far
more overall control, speed
and reliability.
Also demonstrated will
be a custom designed,
manufactured, easy-to-use,
speed insulated door
that has been developed
in three variants for
maximum appeal.
Finally, the EFA-SRT
is an internal fabric
roll-up door suitable for
use in processing areas
where people form part
of the logistics operation.
This all-rounder is
available in a variety
of curtain colours and
window (vision panel)
options, all designed to keep
temperature zones constant
compact and
cost-effective
palletising
solution.

footprint and
provide a full
return on costs
usually within
12 to 24 months,”
