End of line palletising is
a game changer for eggs
RM Group has developed
an end of line
automation solution
that is allowing egg producers
to process and palletise their
eggs with ease and at a speed
that is influencing daily
production rates.
The latest system was
installed for a local Mid Wales
based egg supplier who was in
need of automating its existing
egg processing line. The
system of grading and placing
the eggs into plastic trays
was already established at
the plant, but lacked the end
of line automation so was an
ideal match for the RM Group
egg palletiser.
The Mid Wales based farm
produces about 24,000 eggs
per day, so dealing with
such vast numbers meant it
was essential to have a fast
and reliable solution to the
problem.
This was achieved through
the new egg palletising robot.
Designed as an end of line
palletiser, it stacks the eggtrays
securely onto a pallet through
the use of a specifically
designed head attached to
an ABB palletising robot.
“We needed something
reliable that could cut our
staff by half, saving us
50% of our wage bill,”
explains Hywel Davies.
“Since the robot has been in
full production we have been
very impressed by how agile
and smoothly the eggs are
moved from our grader to the
pallet with precision placing,
Case sealing and strapping
machines bring automation
Gordian Strapping has
supplied two packaging
lines, each consisting of an
automatic case sealer and an
automatic strapping machine,
along with powered infeed
and gravity outfeed conveyors
to TE Connectivity.
Prior to installing the new
equipment, the company was
hand taping boxes before
dispatching them to customers
worldwide. Introducing
an automated case sealing
and strapping operation
The RM Group has developed a fast and accurate palletising option for eggs
has greatly improved pack
security and, of course,
increased overall operating
efficiency of the lines.
Corrugated boxes of product
are fed into the P25 automatic
random case sealer, which has
the ability to apply tape to the
top and bottom flaps. Once
the top flaps have been closed
and sealed, powered roller
conveyors feed the packs into
the StraPack strapper.
giving us the opportunity to
revolutionise the efficiency
of our egg grading” he
continues.
“The robot has allowed us
to run the packing operation
with a single operator instead
of two, saving us in excess
of £10,000 a year in labour
costs,” he concludes.
Orders come
from show
experience
JNY Food Co Ltd of Taiwan has
ordered a Bradman Lake SL903
end load cartoner to pack oriental
prepared meal kits and pouches.
Having looked at various
cartoning technologies from
other suppliers, JNY was in the
process of placing the order with
a competitor but decided not to go
ahead after visiting the Bradman
Lake stand at interpack in May.
As well as witnessing the
technology of the company’s
latest generation integrated
packaging line, Bradman Lake’s
solution based approach and its
commitment in customer support
were also deciding factors.
The new packaging line on
the stand comprised a VGR2000
vision guided robotic pick-andplace
line, which loaded the
products into the infeed of a
FT120 multipack flow wrapper
using two robots. After the
required collation had been
created and flow wrapped,
the products entered the IMSL
end load cartoner – Bradman
Lake’s latest machine.
“One of the main reasons for
winning this order was the trust
we established with the customer
and our ability to guide them
through their first ever automatic
cartoning project,” says sales
manager at Bradman Lake
Tony Marlow.
This is the company’s second
order secured at interpack,
the first was from a Chilean
seafood manufacturer.
