“The auxiliary police unit is similar to regular police but cannot
issue summonses. Their power to arrest is limited within
the company’s property. After making an arrest, the auxiliary
police unit will bring the suspect to the nearest police station,”
said Ismail. Ismail added that security guards sometimes
faced challenges in getting visitors to provide identification
details prior to entering the premises.
The introduction of the security personel provides another
wall of defence against intruders. Whether it be the visibility
of armed guards or the requirement of identification, the
criminal element will find it increasily difficult to sieze an
opportunity. Each auxiliary police officer undergoes a threemonth
training programme of self-defence and arms training.
