EDITOR JACK NEWBERRY HAD THE RARE PLEASURE OF SITTING DOWN WITH NOT ONE, BUT THREE
TALENTED MALAYSIAN BEAUTIES WHO RECENTLY WON THE TOP POSITIONS AT THE MISS MALAYSIA
TOURISM 2013 HOSTED BY TROPICANA CORPORATION BERHAD.
First prize winner Thaarah Ganesan (TG), first runner
up Jennifer Ling Su Ping (JL) and second runner up Renee
Tan Joe (RT) share their experiences of this excellent
event.
Firstly Jennifer, congratulations. How does it feel to
represent Malaysia?
JL: “I feel really proud to represent Malaysia and it was really
unexpected for me to be in the top three. It was a nervewrecking
experience because we had to rehearse the show in
just two or three days for the finale. There was a dance and
song routine that we needed to memorise as well as the
choreography for the catwalk.”
Tropicana; Jun Yong Wan, Miss Malaysia Tourism 2012 and Datuk Danny Ooi,
President of Miss Malaysia Tourism Pageant
That is quite a lot to take on.
JL: “Yes, I try my best to promote Malaysia to other countries
and I want to take part in more charitable events in the future.”
Have you been a model for a long time?
JL: “Actually, I’ve been working as a model prior to this competition.
However, a beauty pageant is totally different to modelling
because so much of modelling is about catwalks. To succeed in
beauty pageants, you need to have the whole package. You need
to have a talent; you need to speak with the audience, you also
need to be aggressive. It’s quite hard to make the change, especially
when you are shy. People tell me to be more aggressive and
to smile more and talk more, so I tried my best.” ➢
