“It was very overwhelming at first; I needed to digest the whole experience.
But after that, I kind of got used to it.”
← I think “aggressive” is the wrong word. I believe it is a
question of being more confident. There is a difference.
JL: “Well, in modelling it is about your looks but pageants are
a lot to do with what you say.”
What do you want to do next?
JL: “First of all, I want to just chill out! Then, I will focus on
completing my studies.”
What are you studying?
JL: “I am studying business.”
Do you want to be a business woman when you graduate?
JL: “I believe business is useful for every career and that’s
why I chose to study this subject. It is useful for almost everything
in life.”
A business mind and killer looks.
JL: “Yes, exactly!”
Thaarah, you are the winner for 2013. Big congratulations
to you! How does it feel?
TG: “It’s actually exciting! It was very overwhelming at first;
I needed to digest the whole experience. But after that, I kind
of got used to it.”
Did you know you were going to win?
TG: “No, definitely not. I was mentally prepared for the
whole thing, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up too high. I
was really surprised and it was great because my whole family
was there.”
How do you think this pageant will help with your career
advancement?
TG: “I think that it will definitely help because I have always
wanted to do more charity work and after winning this title,
I feel that I can do more.”
How does it feel representing Malaysia and what words
of advice do you have for aspiring models?
TG: “It is a bit daunting because I do not want to disappoint
anyone. But I will definitely try my best. Although it sounds
typical to say ‘be you’, I think that it is really important to do
just that and be yourself. It’s very easy to get caught up in
everything that you’re doing, but I personally think it is important
to stick to your principles and what you believe in.”
Was the preparation difficult?
TG: “No, not really. It was tiring being out the whole day rehearsing,
but not difficult.”
Do you think that beauty comes from within?
TG: “Yes, I do and I know this because when you meet someone
who is beautiful but their character is ugly, it shows.”
What would you be if your were not a model?
TG: “I would continue my studies in medical science as I am
currently studying to be a doctor. After I finish my five years
as a General Practitioner, I want to move into pediatrics.”
Excellent. I wish you the best of luck.
Finally Renee, you were the second runner up. Congratulations
and well done. You are at the beginning of
what I imagine is a glamorous journey, but I am interested
in finding out what you will do after all this?
RT: “I’m studying banking and finance, so I will either work
in a large company or a bank.”
Will you look to join more competitions and pageants
before graduating?
RT: “Yes, definitely because there is an age limit with pageants
which is 25. I’m 22, so I want to compete as much as
possible and get as much experience as possible.”
What does it feel like for you to represent Malaysia?
RT: “I would say to represent my hometown of Melaka is
great because back home, there are not too many people joining
pageants and in my family, I have many siblings. I am the
only one who is active in modelling so I get a lot of support
from my mum and dad.”
What about the rest of your siblings, what do they do?
RT: “They are all working, but none of them are modelling.”
Have you got sisters or brothers?
RT: “Both are sisters.”
So you are the lucky one?
RT: “The tall one you mean!”
What have you learned from this experience?
RT: “Well, what has been great for me is learning public
speaking. Initially, I was quite shy and I found it quite hard
to speak in public. However, this gave me the confidence
through practice.”
This is definitely a true statement. The most successful
professionals in the world often have one thing in common
and that is they have all practiced for tens of thousands
of hours to be perfect. So good luck Renee, and I
hope you achieve your goals in life.
RT: “Thanks Jack!”
