SAVOIR VIVRE AMBASSADOR´S DRIVE
Vor seiner diplomatischen
Laufbahn war Perényi Professor
für Ideengeschichte an der
Uni Stockholm.
Prior to his diplomatic career
Perényi was a university professor
for history in Stockholm.
Jaguar E-PACE – the smooth predator
geben“, sagt Jaguar-Design-Direktor Ian Callum. „Und diese Kombination aus puristischem Design und
funktionaler Integrität stellt die perfekte Lösung dar.” So ist es.
The new Jaguar E-PACE, available since January 2018 and produced in Austria by Magna Steyr, is proudly
welcomed in Jaguar's prestigious SUV-series. Offering a character of its own with sportive Jaguar genes, the
Jaguar E-PACE makes no consessions when it comes to space and practicability. In short: a smooth family
SUV with a mighty predator in its tank. Says Jaguar's chief designer Ian Callum: “A perfect solution.“
ry, French and English in Stockholm and Uppsala,
and subsequently became professor for history at the
University of Stockholm. At the beginning of the
Gorbatchev era, he gave up his promising academic
future and moved to Vienna ”to be near my home
country“. Finally, after five years, bridged with various
jobs, he joined the diplomatic services of a new
Hungary and immediately was posted at the Embassy
in Austria which he is now heading. In between,
Perényi held high-ranking positions in Strasbourg,
at the European Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and the Embassies in Paris and Morocco.
As a matter of fact, Hungary and Austria share a
centuries long, and sometimes delicate common history
which also has suffered a few bumps recently.
Quoting Nietzsche – ”Too much of history harms living.
Too less as well.“ – Perényi perfectly exhibits his
rare talent to cover all of them under one big arch of
kindness nourished by experience. He rather points to
the “super“ friendship between Hungarians and Austrians
and to the outstanding trade and investment activities
between the countries. That's a skill which sometimes
turns a diplomat into a statesman.
Just before János Perényi, Hungary's Ambassador
to Austria since December 2014, hops into the
new Jaguar E-PACE for CD's ”Ambassador's
Drive“ Nr. 8, he eye-caresses the smooth curves of
this SUV-predator and faintly remarks: ”Oh, against
this one I really wouldn't have anything.“ Then, with
a gentleman's sovereignty, distinguishing him as a sir
among Vienna's diplomats, he steers the E-PACE to
the doors of his countryman Mathias Szamos who is
running the best Hungarian pastry shop in town.
And on the way, he deeply digs into his remarkable
carreer which mirrors the history of his country.
In 1956, when he was six, his parents fled from
Hungary to Sweden where he later on studied Histo-
