SINGLE-ARM PLANK
While the plank is not underrated, it is still
a great exercise for building your baseline
core stability. According to Richter, if you
cannot maintain a neutral spine when performing
planks, you will end up compromising
your positioning when
working with barbells. Mark Denchak,
PES, ATC, MS and Illinois’ Northwestern
Medicine Training & Sports Performance
Clinic’s athletic trainer suggests
that once you have mastered
the more elementary forearm plank,
then try the more demanding single-arm
plank.
Start with the modified knee pushup
position with your body straight,
core tight, and arms extended under
your shoulders. Lift your right hand
off the ground and touch the opposite
shoulder then lift both your
knees from the ground to get into the
single-arm plank position. Hold this position
for 3-5 seconds before lowering your
knees back to the ground followed by your
hands. Repeat this process on the other
side and continue interchanging until you
have completed 2-3 sets of 5 reps per side.
Even with its numerous benefits, metabolism
often gets the blame with weight gain. This article
lists down top metabolism myths and explains
it here.
