Environment Variables<br />

man uses the following environment variables:<br />

Localization<br />

Files<br />

Exit Values<br />

Portability<br />

MANPATH<br />

Contains a list of paths to search for man pages.<br />

MANPAGER, PAGER<br />

Contains an output filtering command for use when displaying man pages<br />

on a terminal.<br />

If you are running in a doublebyte locale, verify this variable is set to a<br />

command which supports doublebyte characters, such as the more<br />

command.<br />

TMPDIR<br />

Identifies the directory where temporary files reside.<br />

man uses the following localization environment variables:<br />

v LANG<br />

v LC_ALL<br />

v LC_CTYPE<br />

v LC_MESSAGES<br />

v NLSPATH<br />

man uses the following files:<br />

BookManager ®<br />

book files containing man pages.<br />

Subdirectories containing formatted help files.<br />

Database used by –k option.<br />

1 Failure due to any of the following:<br />

v Unknown command-line option<br />

v Missing path after an –M option<br />

v No information available on the desired subject<br />

v Unable to create a child process to format man page<br />

v Child process returned with nonzero exit status<br />
