1. The mount point must be a directory. Any files in that directory are<br />

inaccessible while the file system is mounted.<br />

2. Only one file system can be mounted to a mount point at any time.<br />

TYPE(file_system_type)<br />

Specifies the type of file system that will perform the logical mount request. The<br />

system converts the TYPE operand value to uppercase letters. This operand is<br />

required.<br />

file_system_type<br />

This name must match the TYPE operand of the FILESYSTYPE statement<br />

that activates this physical file system in the BPXPRMxx parmlib member.<br />

The file_system_type value can be up to 8 characters long.<br />

MODE(RDWR|READ)<br />

Specifies the type of access the file system is to be opened for.<br />

RDWR<br />

Specifies that the file system is to be mounted for read and write access.<br />

RDWR is the default if MODE is omitted.<br />

READ<br />

Specifies that the file system is to be mounted for read-only access.<br />

The z/<strong>OS</strong> <strong>UNIX</strong> file system allows a file system that is mounted using the<br />

MODE(READ) option to be shared as read-only with other systems that<br />

share the same DASD.<br />

PARM(parameter_string)<br />

Specifies a parameter string to be passed to the file system type. The format<br />

and content are specified by the physical file system that is to perform the<br />

logical mount. You can specify lowercase or uppercase characters. Enclose the<br />

string in single quotes. The following parameters are HFS specific. For zFS, see<br />

the topic on the MOUNT command in z/<strong>OS</strong> Distributed File Service <strong>System</strong> z<br />

File <strong>System</strong> Administration.<br />

parameter_string<br />

Specifies a parameter string value that can be up to 1024 characters long.<br />

The parameter string must be enclosed in single quotes; it is case-sensitive.<br />

For an z/<strong>OS</strong> <strong>UNIX</strong> file system, the following can be specified:<br />

PARM(’SYNC(t),NOWRITEPROTECT’)<br />

MOUNT<br />

SYNC(t)<br />

t is a numeric value that specifies the number of seconds that should<br />

be used to override the sync interval default for this file system during a<br />

specific mount. If SYNC is not specified at mount time, then the sync<br />

interval default value will be used (a value of 60 seconds). The same<br />

rules apply to the argument to the SYNC keyword at mount time as<br />

apply to the argument of the SYNCDEFAULT keyword when z/<strong>OS</strong> <strong>UNIX</strong><br />

NOWRITEPROTECT<br />

The z/<strong>OS</strong> <strong>UNIX</strong> file system has a Write Protection mechanism that adds<br />

some overhead to z/<strong>OS</strong> <strong>UNIX</strong> file system processing. This overhead<br />

can be avoided by turning off the write protection by specifying<br />

NOWRITEPROTECT in the PARM field of the MOUNT command.<br />

N<strong>OS</strong>PARSE | N<strong>OS</strong>PARSE(DUMP)<br />

Will cause z/<strong>OS</strong> <strong>UNIX</strong> file system to create a dump when either an<br />

attempt is made to read metadata from disk for a file and the subject<br />
