Citrus Bowl
2008: Chad Henne threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns as Michigan’s Wolverines topped the Heisman-led
Gators. Tim Tebow tossed three TDs himself, and Percy Harvin averaged nearly 13 yards per carry while
rushing for 165 yards, but it wasn’t enough as Florida came up short, 41-35. Adrian Arrington caught the
go-ahead touchdown pass with 4:12 remaining in the game, and Wolverines kicker K.C. Lopata added a field
goal two minutes later to extend the lead to six.
2000: Michigan State wide receiver Plaxico Burress caught a career-high 13 passes for 185 yards and Michigan
State kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to come away with a 37-34 victory over Florida.
Top Individual Performances:
Fred Taylor, RB, Florida, 1998 -- The eventual first-round NFL draft selection set a bowl record with 243 rushing
yards on a school and bowl-record 43 carries, leading the Gators to a 21-6 win over Penn State. At the time,
the 243 rush yards was the second-highest total ever for a Florida running back.
Walker Gillette, WR, Richmond, 1968 -- In a wild 49-42 win over Ohio, caught 20 passes for 242 yards to set a bowl
receiving record.
Buster O’Brien, QB, Richmond, 1968 -- Threw for four touchdowns along with his bowl-record 447 yards passing,
and also had a 31-yard run for another score in leading the Spiders to a 49-42 win over Ohio.
Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia, 2013 -- Threw five touchdown passes, a Bulldog bowl record, including two in the
final quarter to rally Georgia to a 45-31 win over Nebraska. Murray shook off two first-half interceptions, one
returned for a score, to throw for a school bowl-record 427 yards against the nation’s best pass defense.
Connor Shaw, QB, South Carolina, 2014 -- Played a part in all five South Carolina touchdowns throwing for three,
catching one and running the final one into the end zone to ice the game with 5:48 remaining, giving the
Gamecocks a 34-24 win over Wisconsin.
Last Year’s Game:
Notre Dame wide receiver Miles Boykin hauled in a 55-yard, one-handed touchdown catch with 1:28 left in the
fourth quarter to complete Notre Dame's 21-17 comeback victory over LSU in the 72nd annual Citrus Bowl. The
win gave Notre Dame a 10-win season for the second time in three years. After starting the game on the bench,
Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book completed 14 of 19 passing attempts for 164 yards and two touchdowns and
also carried the ball 11 times for 64 yards. Boykin, the game MVP, caught three passes for 102 yards in front of
a crowd of 57,726 at Camping World Stadium. On an unseasonably cold and wet day in Orlando, both teams
needed time to warm up, as Notre Dame kicker Justin Yoon's 46-yard field goal with 4 seconds left in the second
quarter represented the only scoring during the first half. However, early in the third quarter, LSU running back
Derrius Guice caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Danny Etling to give LSU a 7-3 lead. Then, after another
Yoon field goal, Guide scored on a two-yard touchdown pass to put LSU back on top 14-6 with 11:13 left in the
game. The MVP of the previous year's Citrus Bowl, Guice finished with 21 carries for 98 yards on the ground and
caught three passes for 24 yards, including the two scores. In total, Guice tallied 53 touches for 271 total yards
and four total touchdowns in the past two Citrus Bowl games. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Guice's effort was
not enough, as Michael Young knotted the score at 14-14 on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Book. And after a
Jack Gonsoulin 17-yard field goal put LSU back on top with 2:03 to play, Boykin pulled down the game-winning
touchdown, securing he Fighting Irish’s first New Year’s Day bowl win since 1994.
