24-21 win over Tulsa. BYU drove 48 yards in 12 plays during a 4:08 scoring drive as Hoffman caught a 2-yard<br />
TD pass from quarterback Riley Nelson to secure the win.<br />
2015: Houston capped a 29-point fourth quarter with a two-point conversion to seal a 35-34 victory over<br />
Pittsburgh with just 0:59 left. The comeback, the largest ever in a bowl that didn’t go to overtime, saw the<br />
Cougars recover two onside kicks in a row to stun the Panthers.<br />
2016: Jonathan Barnes kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired as Louisiana Tech beat Navy, 48-45, in the<br />
highest scoring game in Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl history. Navy tied the score at 45-45 with less<br />
than four minutes remaining in the game.<br />
2017: For the second straight year, the game down to the final seconds, as the Army West Point Black Knights<br />
scored 14 points in the final 18 seconds to earn a 42-35 victory over San Diego State. As a team, Army ran<br />
for 440 yards. The Aztecs’ Rashaad Penny rushed for 221 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries.<br />
Top Individual Performances:<br />
Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State – Closed his career by running for a bowl-record 221 yards on just 14 carries,<br />
with a LMAFB-best four touchdowns before becoming a first-round draft pick in April.<br />
Jared Goff, QB, California, 2015 – Threw for 467 yards and six touchdowns, breaking Aaron Rodgers’Cal record for<br />
passing yards in a bowl game. Goff was 25 of 37 with no interceptions.<br />
Ryan Dinwiddie, QB, Boise State, 2003 – In the inaugural bowl, threw three touchdown passes, including an 18-<br />
yarder to Derek Schouman in the final minutes, to lead the Broncos to a 34-31 win over hometown favorite TCU.<br />
Kyle Van Noy, LB, Brigham Young, 2011 – Recorded 10 tackles including five for losses and two sacks, and also<br />
forced a fumble in BYU’s narrow 24-21 win over TCU. He led a Cougar defense that held the Golden Hurricane,<br />
which had been averaging over 200 rush yards per game, to only 37 yards on the ground.<br />
Jason Swanson, QB, Kansas, 2005 – Threw four touchdown passes, three of them of 30 yards or more, in leading<br />
the Jayhawks to a 42-13 win over Houston.<br />
Cody Hoffman,WR, Brigham Young, 2011 – Caught three touchdown passes from Riley Nelson, the last one<br />
coming with only 11 seconds left, as the Cougars rallied for a 24-21 win over Tulsa. Hoffman wound up with<br />
eight catches for 122 yards.<br />
Jordan Taylor, WR, Rice, 2012 – Had nine catches for 153 yards and three touchdowns, two of them coming in the<br />
second half in helping the Owls wrap up a 33-14 win over Air Force. Taylor’s scores covered 16, 22 and 34 yards.<br />
Trent Taylor, WR, Louisiana Tech, 2016 – Set bowl records with 12 receptions and 233 yards and tallied two<br />
touchdown receptions in the Bulldog’s 48-45 final-second victory over Navy.<br />
Last Year’s Game:<br />
Army West Point scored 14 points in the final 18 seconds to earn a 42-35 comeback win over San Diego State.<br />
Trailing 35-28 with less than a half-minute remaining, Darnell Woolfork scored from one yard out for his second<br />
touchdown of the game. Army then converted a gutsy two-point try to take a one-point lead. San Diego State<br />
tried to lateral on its ensuing possession but fumbled and the Black Knights returned it for a score with no time<br />
left. The Black Knights rushed for 440 yards to top Aztec great Rashaad Penny, who set bowl records with 221<br />
rushing yards and four scores on just 14 carries and finished the season as the nation’s leading rusher. Army<br />
dominated the time of possession, setting a bowl record by holding the ball for 46 of the 60 minutes. In addition,<br />
Army had 31 first downs to just 11 for San Diego State. The teams combined for just 31 passing yards, but 695<br />
rush yards.<br />
