Birmingham Bowl
Last Year’s Game:
South Florida's Quinton Flowers ran for one touchdown and threw for a bowl record tying four touchdowns with
the most important one coming with sixteen seconds left in the game to seal the second straight Birmingham bowl
victory for South Florida. Weather played a crucial role along with penalties but nothing short of another exciting
Birmingham bowl that had eight lead changes and four ties. South Florida (10-2) trailed by three with just one
minute and thirty one seconds on the clock when last years Birmingham bowl MVP Quinton Flowers got the ball on
offense. Flowers lead the bulls downfield with two key rushes with a twenty-one-yard gain coming on third and
ten before connecting with Tyre McCants in the endzone leaving just sixteen seconds on the clock for Texas Tech
(6-7). Texas Tech’s quarterback Nic Shimonek threw for 416 yards and three scores, but came up just short with his
desperation pass falling short in the final seconds. Texas Tech was lead on the ground by Justin Stockton who rushed
eighteen times 104 yards. South Florida was lead on the ground by Quinton Flowers who rushed fourteen times for
109 yards. Quinton Flowers repeated as the Fred Sington most valuable player.
