Need a little help
organising your wedding
photography? Look
no further! We ask
multi award-winning
photographer, Haleana
Knights...
Q: How do you make
sure you meet a couple’s
requirements?
A: I always try and meet
my couples before hand
so that I can get to know
what they like and dislike,
what their vision of the day
looks like and how they feel
in front of the camera. I
then encourage the couple
to contact me as many
times as they need to. We
also meet again before
the big day to firm up the
itinerary details and tie up
any loose ends. Some of the
best weddings I have ever
shot, have been as a result
of open communications
between me and the couple
getting married. I love it
when they feel inspired by
our chats and are invested in
getting the best shots of their
day as possible.
Q: How would you describe
your style? Do you prefer
candid or more traditional
photos?
A: I love them both for
different reasons! I absolutely
love disappearing into the
background and capturing
the moments as they happen,
whether it’s the father’s
reaction to his daughter in her
wedding dress or the tears of
laughter during the best man’s
speech. Having said that, a
majority of my couples ask
for the group shots because
they know that their parents or
grandparents will love having
these for the mantelpiece.
My favourite part of the day
is the stylised session where
I steal the newlyweds away
for a while to get some really
beautiful pictures of them
alone, together. If a couple tell
me that they want an entirely
documentary-style wedding
with absolutely no posed
photos, then that is what I will
deliver and if a couple ask for
mainly candid photography
with a few traditional elements
thrown in, I will deliver that
too. So in a nutshell, I would
say that I offer something
in the middle, with a little
flexibility thrown in.
Q: Finally, what are your top
tips for couple’s choosing a
wedding photographer?
A: Ask to see a selection of
images throughout the day.
It’s really important to see
whether the photographer
you’re interested in can
handle all the different light
situations. I’d also be sure that
they are operating have the
proper insurances, contracts
and all the appropriate gear
and equipment for your
day. And last, but not least,
make sure you meet your
photographer face to face
before booking and be sure
that you get along! They will
be shadowing you on one of
the most important days of
your life after all!
