Neo-Soul/Nu-Jazz artist, with the vision to change the perception of
women in music, calls out for support to crowd fund debut album...
Described my Blues Matters
Magazine as ‘A talented young
performer making a lot of people
sit up’, Norwich-based Freya Roy is
about to record her debut album,
exploring jazz, neo-soul, R&B and
hip-hop.
A recent graduate
from Leeds College of
Music, studying Jazz
Composition and Music
Production, Roy has
previously released 2
independent EPs under
her label, FCR Music, as
well as a documentary
exploring the issues
faced by women and
minorities in the music and creative
industries.
Fortunate to receive funding from Leeds
College of Music’s Artist Development
Scheme, Roy can begin to work with a top
mix engineer, Dom Howard (Submotion
Orchestra/Ruckspin) and top UK jazz
musicians.
Freya expresses, “My mission is to grow
my label, FCR Music, as a platform that
works to inspire and empower industry
minorities.”
“Pushing forward a message that is
prevalent within this album: to break the
persistent gender stereotype within music
and the creative industries, pushing for the
destruction of the hidden
barriers faced by women and
LGBTQ+ artists, particularly
within production, jazz and
its sister genres”.
“I will be truly happy if I can
achieve this goal and present
to you all my best work yet.
Even as little as a few pounds
from backers will help push
me towards my £1k goal.”
