ghd Sean Taaffe Kilorglin Keep staff shining Christmas is all about spending time with your nearest and dearest, but it is also one of the busiest periods in the salon. To avoid any ill will over the festive season, it’s worth making work a little bit special for your staff. After all, Christmas cheer is infectious. “We need to keep the atmosphere upbeat, what with all the busy days,” says Kara O’Shea, general manager at Sean Taaffe salon group. “We do Christmas jumper days both for fun and for charity, and we all wear what we want on Christmas Eve. The girls create a playlist of cheesy music, we do bakeoffs and there are plenty of chocolate treats. Kara continues: “And there’s the Sean Taaffe Christmas bingo! When you sell a product you get to pick a number. Then if yours gets picked out you win a prize!” And make sure that your staff get a chance to party properly, too. “Our team sacrifice a lot during the busy season, committing to extra hours and longer shifts to accommodate all the clients’ needs. So they look forward to letting their hair down at the staff party,” says Rosemary Danagher, owner and managing director of Rossano’s Hair and Beauty group. “Each salon participates in a Secret Santa and it gives the team a good giggle.” Stocking up the shelves Don’t forget that Christmas is the best time for retail – so make sure your shelves are stocked with gift ideas. “Planning for the festive season starts early with the arrival of our gift sets as we start to plant the seed early and encourage our clients to start shopping by offering a payment plan for earlybird shoppers,” says Rosemary Danagher. “We love that Redken and Kérastase have bespoke gift sets.” “Christmas is a great time to boost your retail and make a good return on investment, particularly with in-demand gifts like ghd,” explains Charlotte Mensah, ghd creative artist and owner of the Hair Lounge Salon in London. “The gift sets are something that people really want, particularly with limited editions that always makes for an excellent selling point.” And your expertise can help make that sale. “A good way to encourage clients to invest in gifts and tools is to showcase your knowledge and ghd’s,” continues Charlotte. “Tell them about the looks that are trending – using the ghd Queens as a consulting tool – and how they can recreate those looks using the same tools hairstylists use.
