Loving
Care
The New Year is the perfect time for change. If a
relative or loved one is having difficulty caring for
themselves independently, why not make 2019 the
year you help them?
The East of England is home to a huge range of quality
care and retirement homes. Some offer full time medical
care and every day assistance, while others can offer
the peace of mind that a relative is living in a like-minded
community with safety measures in place in case of
emergencies. Most come with a superb chef, hairdressers
and an impressive social scene. The search for the right
option can take some time but research is key in finding
the correct care or retirement home for your needs.
Care homes
In Hertfordshire, the purpose built Bentley House run by
Signature Senior Lifestyle offers exceptional accommodation
at an affordable price. While Snowdrop House in
Ware prides itself on its round the clock care and five star
facilities including entertainment.
In Cambridgeshire, Clayburn Court care home is purpose-built
and designed to provide the highest standards
of residential and residential dementia care. It is operated
by Anchor and set in the heart of the community. The
residents have recently enjoyed a range of celebrations
throughout the festive period and the home welcomes
any local older people to join the activities offering the
opportunity to enjoy some company and conversation
when the weather is cold and days are shorter.
Doors are also open to anyone who wishes to volunteer
or any local organisations who would like to work with
the residents and staff. The home includes a number
of facilities, such as a hair salon, coffee shop area and a
number of quiet lounges.
Residents can expect top quality food from Head Chef,
Rob Devonshire, who recently won Anchor’s prestigious
Chef of the Year competition, which was judged by Michelin
star chef Tom Shepherd. Clayburn Court takes pride in the
range of high quality, seasonally focused and nutritionally
balanced meals available to residents on a daily basis. The
catering team make an effort to get out of the kitchen and
speak to the people they cook for every day, finding out
about personal preferences and dishes that they particularly
enjoy.
Anchor was named ‘Residential Care Provider of the Year’
at the prestigious Health Investor Awards and celebrated
its 50th Anniversary in 2018. It is England’s largest not-forprofit
provider of care and housing for older people, which
enables reinvestment in its properties and homes.
Retirement Villages
Due to the demand of affordable housing, retirement
villages are popping up in towns and villages across the
region, providing stylish and safe accommodation for over
55s. Generally offering one or two bed homes and on-site
facilities such as a restaurant and communal area, it’s the
perfect option for those looking to downsize or perhaps
those who need extra security and support.
Debden Grange in Newport, near Saffron Walden is one
of the latest developments to open in Essex. Part of Retirement
Villages portfolio, the initial phase of building will
deliver seven, two-bedroom cottages accessed from Whiteditch
Lane, which will be completed by late spring 2019.
Each of the brick-built Beaufort cottages in the initial
build phase comprises a spacious hallway with open plan
sitting/dining area. There is a modern fitted kitchen with
integrated appliances and double bedroom with fitted
