Summer
Days
Summer’s warm weather and
long sunny days naturally
draws the community together,
providing ample opportunities to
connect and relax.
It’s also an opportunity to explore
our east end, try new things,
attend festivals, and access
programs, many of which are free
of charge, which can make any
staycation exciting.
Our local library branches are
a great place to visit, providing
activities for residents of all ages
that inform, engage, and excite.
It was wonderful to see that our
community’s diverse culture
will be celebrated in programs
offered at the Orléans branch with
African Stories, Songs, Drumming
and Dance and at the Blackburn
Hamlet branch with Henna Art.
While library activities offer a
more cognitive approach to
summer fun, programs such
Park-ticipaction offer a more
physical alternative. Parkticipaction
is a free drop-in
program offered from July 2 to
August 23 at various local, rural
and urban parks throughout the
east end. More information on
timing and locations can be found
at Ottawa.ca/recreation.
In addition to offering great
programs, the City is also looking
for your ideas and feedback
as part of the revamp of the
Recreation Facility Infrastructure
Standards and Strategy. The
updated strategy will guide the
city’s design of new municipal
recreation facilities and prioritize
plans for existing recreation
facilities. I would encourage you to
take a few minutes to visit Ottawa.
ca to provide your thoughts.
I commend the Heart of Orléans
Business Improvement Area and
Orléans Festivals for the many
festivals that take place during
the summer months. These events
shine a spotlight on the local
business community and draw
residents from across Ottawa and
tourists to our city to the east end.
During the summer, I will be moving
my pop-up offices outside to meet
with Innes Ward residents in our
public parks. I will publicize the
dates and locations on my website,
LauraDudas.ca, and I look forward
to discussing community and city
matters with each of you.
Whether it’s dropping by the library,
attending a foodie festival, or
simply enjoying a picnic at one
of the local parks, the east end is
bustling with activities for all ages
to connect and grow.
