Celebrate
Orléans!
You know, it’s easy in the
wintertime to forget all the
incredible public spaces we have
hiding under all that ice and snow.
This is our shot to get out and enjoy
everything our incredible community
has to offer.
Petrie Island is home to the Canoe
Club, The Friends of Petrie Island,
Ozile’s Marina, Banana’s and Petrie
Summer Smash. You can support
our shared goal of making the island
accessible to everyone by registering
a beach volleyball team today! A new
partnership between Petrie Summer
Smash and the Miracle League has
meant further progress toward this
goal. In fact, with the generosity
of the congregation at Community
Pentecostal Church, we are well on
our way to purchasing a small fleet of
floating wheelchairs so that everyone
can enjoy our beach. After all, public
space is not truly public unless it is
accessible to all.

Summer Reading Club kicks off in
June if you are looking for a great
way to keep the kids busy this
summer. Growing up, I spent many
hazy summer days at my local
branch of the Gloucester Public
Library and I enjoyed it so much
(especially the air conditioning).
Check out OPL’s website for this and
so many other incredible programs
for kids and adults, too.
I’ve been encouraging our community
to get outside too. Our annual
Seniors Bingo was a big success.
Thank you to all the seniors who
came out and to the members of the
BIA who generously donated gifts.
What’s more, most of our parks and
pathways are now open, providing a
great opportunity to get healthy and
shed some extra winter weight (of
which I have plenty).
