SPOOKY
SEASON

October is easily my favourite month for
reading – it’s spooky season. It’s getting
darker and colder, meaning a month full
of pumpkin spiced drinks, cosy blankets,
as well as beautiful oranges and ambers. I
often save up all my spooky themed books
whether they be paranormal, thrillers
or crime to read during the month of
October as it has an atmosphere like no
other month. So, if you fancy getting into
some creepy reads that fit the seasonal
festivities really well then look no further
than this selection of some of my personal
favourites. Light some candles, turn off the
lights, and get stuck into something spooky!
THE EXORCIST
BY WILLIAM PETER BLATTY
Probably the most infamous cinematic
tale of demonic possession, yet many
people are unaware that the cult classic
horror is based on a novel of the same
name. This eerie tale tells of a young girl
who is seemingly possessed by an ancient
demon from the Far East, and the reckless
behaviour she unleashes upon her mother
until her fate falls into the hands of a
renowned exorcist.
‘SALEM’S LOT
BY STEPHEN KING
One of King’s earlier pieces of work, this
novel follows an author who returns
to the town many years after leaving
to write a novel based on his younger
years there. However, upon returning
strange goings on occur and talks of a cult
practicing vampirism begin to surface.
This is an incredibly powerful book with
a fantastically eerie reading atmosphere
radiating from it.
THE WOMAN IN BLACK

I’m sure many of us are familiar with the
Daniel Radcliffe horror, a narrative that
follows a young lawyer who is sent to an
old mansion located on a small island to
go through the paperwork of a recently
deceased woman. He soon finds out that
