iPHONE 11
BY JOSHUA HODGKIN
I’m a huge fan of iPhones. I have had
many over the years, along with many
other Apple products too. When I saw the
announcement for the iPhone 11 series, I
was really amazed. Now that they’re out in
the shops, I want to give you the lowdown.
There are three new phones to look at, the
iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone
11 Pro Max. I can’t say I was attracted to
the names, but the phones are amazing.
The Pro models have three camera lenses,
with the Ultra Wide, Wide and Telephoto
lenses. The Ultra Wide lens gives a GoProesque
appearance to your photos, taking
in a wider area than normal. Wide is your
standard lens, and the Telephoto lens
allows for that optical zoom you’re used to
on the iPhone X and XS ranges.
The lenses feature a new 12MP
sensor, which really packs a
punch. Lighting and saturation is
really impressive.
Photos appear natural and true to life, even
though they’re touched up by AI in real
time. Not only that, but video recording is
insane with a 4K resolution at 60 FPS. What
does that mean? A standard video camera
records at 25 FPS (frames-per-second),
so 60 FPS means the camera takes over
double the frames into each second,
making motion in video buttery smooth.
The standard iPhone 11 has amazing
battery life, lasting all day in real world
use, and is actually cheaper than the
iPhone XR was last year. Not by much,
at £729 rather than £749, but it is a
reduction nonetheless.
What don’t I like? Firstly, it’s 2019. I can
buy a charger on Amazon for around £20,
allowing super fast, intelligent charging for
my phone. What does the iPhone 11 come
with? The same 5 watt, 1 amp charger
from yesteryear. My iPad has a 10 watt,
2.1 amp charger, and the phones should
come with this. But why does this matter?
The higher rated charger charges much
faster. That’s it.
So, should you buy the iPhone 11? In
short, if you’re looking for a new iPhone
and you’ve got something like the iPhone
7 (like me) then I’d definitely recommend
taking a look. However, it may even be
worth picking up an iPhone XR as they
aren’t all that different.
