SUBTLE HALLOWEEN STYLING BY APRIL GANT As we move into October it can only mean one thing - Halloween is very quickly creeping up on us and pumpkins are starting to make an appearance anywhere and everywhere, even in our coffees. It’s about time to start talking about the season of tricking and at times treating. I’ve always been a lover of Halloween and in particular ways of incorporating spookiness into my everyday style whether that be work attire or going about the town without scaring anyone along the way. The great thing about how popular Halloween has become in recent years is that nearly every shop you walk in has something on offer that enables you to represent Halloween in some sort of way. Hair accessories, t-shirts, dresses, nails...you name it and there’s bound to be something Halloween themed for every sort of person. With that being said, styling Halloween in real life outfits couldn’t be easier and really affordable. For me, a set of earrings is the easiest and most subtle way of showing your love for Halloween, you can pick up a set of 8 assorted pairs from Primark for as little as £2.50. If you’re feeling a bit more daring then a set of skeleton hair clips or Halloween phrases are also a good way to go, they’re a little more out there but can be styled really easily for work or a shopping day and at IMAGE CREDIT APRIL GANT prices as low as £2, it won’t be breaking the bank. If you’re wanting to make your love for Halloween a bit more known, then there’s always an abundance of themed t-shirts from Halloween puns to skeleton hands which are easy to style with a midi skirt or jeans. Another great way to add a subtle dash of Halloween is by using a spooky themed shopper/tote bag. In Sainsbury’s they have the most adorable cream canvas tote with the cutest illustrations of cats, pumpkins, moons and stars and it was only £4! Places like Primark, New Look, all good supermarkets and home stores like B&M are brilliant places to find pieces that can easily be added into an everyday outfit. Failing that, even just the addition of orange or black to an outfit can get you feeling a bit more festive for Halloween. 32 • OCTOBER 2019 • STUDENT LIFE
