2020 ist ein großes Jahr für Japan und für Tokio. Nicht nur
steht das Land am Anfang einer Epoche, die mit der
Thronbesteigung von Kaiser Naruhito begonnen hat und die
sich „Reiwa“ (Schöne Harmonie) nennt, 2020 ist auch das
Jahr, in dem Tokio Austragungsort der Olympischen
Sommerspiele, also des größten Sportereignisses des Jahres,
ist. Und so tut sich in der Metropole allerhand in Sachen
Hospitality. Einer Frischzellenkur hat sich eines der
elegantesten Hotels der Stadt unterzogen. Das Mandarin
Oriental, das sich im Stadtteil Nihonbashi unweit der zentralen
Tokyo Station befindet, präsentiert sich in einem frischen
Look. Geblieben sind selbstverständlich die großartigen
Ausblicke, die man von den Zimmern und den Restaurants auf
die Stadt hat. Mit etwas Glück kann man auch einen Blick auf
den Berg Fuji erhaschen. Die wunderbaren Restaurants
verdienen eine eindringliche Empfehlung. Kein Wunder, dass
hier auch schon René Redzepi vom Kopenhagener Noma ein
Gastspiel gegeben hat.
2020 is going to be a big year for Japan and for Tokyo. Not
only does the island nation find itself at the beginning of a
new era that commenced with the accession of Emperor
Naruhito and goes by the name of “Reiwa” (“beautiful
harmony”), 2020 is also the year in which Tokyo will host the
Summer Olympics – the biggest sports event of the year. And
thus, the metropolis is undergoing changes when it comes to
hospitality. In particular, one of the most elegant hotels in the
city has recently undergone a complete rejuvenation. The
Mandarin Oriental, located in the district of Nihonbashi not far
from the very central Tokyo Station, has receivevd a
completely new look. What has remained is, of course, the
brilliant view of the city that one can enjoy from the rooms
and the restaurants. With a little bit of luck, you can even
catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji. The brilliant restaurants are highly
recommended. No surprise then, that René Redzepi from the
Noma in Copenhagen has paid a visit here.

Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments
Soeben wurde das kleine Boutiquehotel in der nordportugiesischen Stadt Porto von der einflussreichen
Design-Zeitschrift Surface als bestes und schönstes „Small Hotel“ des Jahres 2019 ausgezeichnet. Es ist tatsächlich
ein Juwel und befindet sich in einem herrschaftlichen Gebäude aus dem 19. Jahrhundert im Stadtteil Ribeira. Seine
Innengestaltung verweist auf die große Seefahrertradition Portugals und auf das Zeitalter der Entdeckungen. Einst
war in dem Gebäude eine Bank untergebracht. Der große Tresorraum ist heute ein Weinkeller, der sich bestens für
Verkostungen eignet.
This small boutique hotel in the city of Porto in northern Portugal was just named the best and most beautiful “small
hotel” of the year 2019 by the influential design magazine Surface. A true gem, it is located inside a manorial building
from the 19th century in the district of Ribeira. Its interior design references Portugal’s seafaring tradition and the Age of
Discovery. The building once harboured a bank. Today, the vault is a small wine cellar that is perfectly suited for
sampling sessions.
