The 18th New York International Conference on<br />
Teaching Chinese<br />
Chinese as a World Language:<br />
New Approaches, New Technologies, New Opportunities and New Challenges<br />
The 18th New York International Conference on Teaching Chinese, sponsored by the Chinese<br />
Language Teachers Association of Greater New York (<strong>CLTA</strong>-GNY), Pace University and Nanjing<br />
University, will be held on Saturday, May 2, <strong>2020</strong> at Pace University in New York City.<br />
We invite you to submit a proposal for our conference! All proposals on the teaching of Chinese<br />
are welcome, including but not limited to following of interest:<br />
RESEARCH: This area includes Linguistics, culture, pedagogy, program implementation,<br />
assessments, etc.<br />
PRACTICES: This area includes student motivation, administration, program promotion,<br />
teaching materials, classroom instructional strategies, ACTFL 5 Cs standards application, teacher<br />
training, community engagement, etc.<br />
INNOVATIONS: This area includes technology and media use, online and distance learning,<br />
application of recent research on brain and learning theories, etc.<br />
The <strong>CLTA</strong>-GNY Conference Committee welcomes submissions of proposals on subjects relevant<br />
to the above themes. Papers can be either in Chinese or English. We will consider proposals for<br />
panels as well as individual papers and all proposals will be reviewed anonymously. Individual<br />
papers will be grouped into panels by themes. Panels will be 75 minutes long with four presenters.<br />
Please note that we will need separate abstracts for each paper on any panel proposal.<br />

Notice of acceptance will be sent out in early March electronically. Anyone who needs a hard copy<br />
of the notice should include a special request with their proposal.<br />
Approximately 300 participants attended the conference last year. Presentations included the most<br />
current research and field-proven effective instructional strategies. You may access the <strong>CLTA</strong>-<br />
GNY website to view 2019 conference information here. Please register online before April<br />
25, <strong>2020</strong> to get an early-bird discount rate of $30 for members and $50 for nonmembers.<br />

accepted after April 25 at the regular registration fee of $40 for members and $60 for nonmembers.<br />
To encourage pre-service teachers’ attendance, there is a discount rate of $20 (ONLY<br />
for early registration) for current university undergraduate and graduate students when their<br />
student ID is verified.<br />
The <strong>2020</strong> New York International Conference will run from approximately 9:00 am – 6:00 pm on<br />
May 2, <strong>2020</strong>.<br />
