Tenure-track position in Chinese<br />
Studies (Memphis, TN)<br />
The Department of Modern Languages and<br />
Literatures at Rhodes College invites<br />
applications for a tenure-track position in<br />
Chinese Studies to begin Fall of <strong>2020</strong>.<br />
Rhodes College believes that diversity and<br />
inclusion are critical to our success as an<br />
institution, and we seek to recruit, develop,<br />
and retain the most talented people from a<br />
diverse candidate pool. Preference will be<br />
given to candidates whose research focuses<br />
on modern Chinese and/or Sinophone<br />
literature. Native or near-native proficiency<br />
in Mandarin and English is required. The<br />
successful candidate must demonstrate a<br />
firm commitment to teaching and<br />
scholarship at a liberal arts college and will<br />
be expected to maintain an active research<br />
program. Research will be supported by<br />
start-up funds. Possibilities for additional<br />
research support include summer research<br />
funds and travel funds. Collaborative<br />
research and teaching opportunities exist<br />
with several interdisciplinary programs,<br />
including Asian Studies, Film and Media<br />
Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies,<br />
among others. Teaching responsibilities will<br />
include five courses a year from the<br />
following: basic and intermediate language<br />
courses, upper-level research and seminar<br />
courses in the candidate’s area of<br />
specialization, and literature courses in<br />
translation. Candidates must have completed<br />
all requirements for a Ph.D. in Chinese<br />
Studies or a related field by July <strong>2020</strong>.<br />
