SportsI believe Patrick is agreat inspiration forus all to take charge ofour lives and blossominto the people weknow we can be.Patrick, owner of Van, is bringingthe traditional practice of JiuJitsu to Jeonju. He recentlylived in Vancouver, Canada, hence the name of his company. He usedto run a similar business there, but unableto stay long term, decided to build on hisexperience and establish himself back inKorea. Starting over again is seldom easy, but he is on a mission to inspire othersto never give up on themselves or theirdreams.including championships in Toronto,Canada. He expressed that because Jiu Jitsuwas first established in Japan, then migratedto Brazil, and is now especially popular inCalifornia, the style has changed quite a bit.For him, the importance is on focusing onthe traditional aspects of the practice. Hesays that nowadays, it can be a super flashysport, but that people should learn thebasics first. His class focused on practicingscenarios that could happen in the realworld, which are applicable to everyone. When it comes to the space, all of hisproducts are eco-friendly, all the way downto the paint on the walls. As a way to payit forward, he even offers free classes tothe community every Saturday. After hisclass, I asked him what the most importanttakeaway should be, and he said “to nevergive up.” I have a feeling he was referencingmore than just the chokeholds I practicedearlier that day. His motto is V-A-N, V is toVenture into the unknown, A is to Aim higher, and N is to Never give up.Starting over againis seldom easy, buthe is on a mission toinspire others to nevergive up on themselvesor their dreams. Before his life aligned with Jiu Jitsu, he wasan officer for a good part of his life, so theprinciple of self-defense has always beenin his nature. Naturally, he was drawn to thepractice of the sport, but his primary reasonfor getting into it was about his mentaland physical health. He is now a black beltholder and has competed internationally,There was this natural synergy betweenwho he is as a person, the sport, and thespace itself. He is very kind in natureand cares deeply about protectingboth people and the earth. Throughoutthe class, he is very attentive to eachparticipant, ensuring they understandfully what to do.I believe Patrick is a great inspiration for usall to take charge of our lives and blossominto the people we know we can be.Address: 완산구 효자동2가 1316-4 본주짓수 복사Instagram: @vanjiujitsuContact number: 063-222-5251Operating hours: Open Mon-Sat, Closed Sundays39
