All roads will lead to Jeonju once again for the

Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), which

promises to be more exciting and eventful

this year. The annual fest will be scheduled

from April 30 to May 5, 2020, and will be held at its usual

venue at the Cinema Street in Gaeksa, which is known as

a trendy place where many of Jeonju’s youth gather. One of

the most awaited programs of JIFF is the International Film

Competition, which will feature rising directors from all over

the world. The organization’s slogan reads: “Cinema, Liberated

and Expressed.” Jeonju IFF 2020 will step up to rediscover

new talents together with the audiences, expanding the

boundary of cinema through unlimited and new forms of

expression and imagination. What makes this competition

even more interesting is that JIFF will open to the public

feature films including fictions, animations, documentaries,

and experimental films, which have not been presented in

any Asian countries before the festival is held. This means

that locals and visitors in Jeonju will be the first to watch

these new films.

Another interesting program in JIFF are the panel talks and

after-show discussions which will lessen the gap between

the film creators and the moviegoers. Of course, one of the

most awaited days in the festival is the red carpet event,

where visitors can see fashionable Korean and international

celebrities up close.

Last year, several award-winning films told stories that

have socio-political messages about world peace, youth

and women empowerment, multiculturalism and diversity,

among many others. This year, the featured films will be just

as powerful and meaningful. The JIFF organization hopes that

more people from all over Korea and other countries will be

able to watch these films to open their minds and help them

learn more about the world.
