Alsace
Alsace, now part of France, used to be linked to
Germany and the tall, green tapered bottles are
a reflection of their Germanic past. The wines
of Alsace tend to be drier than their German
counterpart due to their traditional winemaking
technique being to ferment all of the grape sugar
into alcohol, resulting in a dry, full-bodied wine.
Facts & Figures
25% of Alsace’s wines are exported with the
Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Denmark
being the top four consumers.
Did You Know?
It is fair to assume that using the word ‘Haut’ would
indicate somewhere being high up in location.
However, the ‘Haut’ in Alsace’s Haut-Rhin, situated
in the south of the wine-growing region, refers to
the elevation of the vines rather than the vineyards
being located in the north of the region!
