France - Loire
The Loire stretches from the mouth of the Atlantic ocean west of Nantes to Sancerre in the east, finding an array of
grape varieties en route. Muscadet in the west boasts bone dry, saline edged whites with Chenin Blanc taking over
in the central vineyards of Vouvray and Montlouis and red making an appearance around the town of Saumur, the
home of Cabernet Franc. Sauvignon Blanc makes a brief appearance in Touraine before reappearing as king in the far
eastern appellations of the well-known Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume.
Facts & Figures
The Loire is the longest river in France, stretching
just over 1,000 kilometres.
Did You Know?
Chenin Blanc is one of the world’s most versatile
grapes, producing wines that are bone dry to
lusciously sweet.
"Nestled in the Loire Valley’s central Touraine region, the historic town of Chinon
is renowned for its berry-scented reds made exclusively from the often forgotten
Cabernet Franc. Packed full of character, Les Roches Cachées Chinon is fast
becoming a firm favourite, showing an elegant palate of freshly cut pepper and soft
spice making the perfect accompaniment to grilled meats."
