Ecological Footprint
9
quarter of the tons of carbon dioxide equivalent
(tCO 2
eq) generated by the other means of
transport (see graphic). The ropeway therefore
has the smallest CO 2
footprint. The results of
the study were audited by three independent
institutions. Martin Beermann from JOANNEUM
RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH made
the following statement: “The study Carbon
Footprint of a Doppelmayr Cable Car in La
Paz and Comparison with Tram or Bus fully
complies with the ISO 14040 and 14044
standards (CO 2
emissions).”
In La Paz, the urban ropeways carry over
300,000 commuters and tourists on a daily
basis. The Línea Roja is an important part of
the world’s biggest urban ropeway network,
which was built in six years by Doppelmayr/
Garaventa acting as general contractor. The
South American metropolis has a total of ten
lines that provide a huge time saving for journeys
to work, enable comfortable mobility for
all, and provide an environmentally friendly
means of travel that is integrated into the
transport system and harmonizes with the
cityscape.
