Fountains should be cleaned once a week, unless they get severely dirty
before that. Professional mediums may have to clean their fuentes more
often because they come in regular contact with others, whose negative
energies may dirty the waters more quickly. Whenever a fountain becomes
polluted, it should be cleaned right away. The waters of the fountain should
be poured out onto the ground; they should never be flushed or poured
down the sink, as this can and does cause issues with the pipes over time.
Once the water has been emptied, you can wash the fountain with soap
and water just as you would any other dish. If it was polluted or has
collected bugs, fill it with water after washing it and pour in three dashes of
Florida Water. Let it sit on the altar for three days, then dump it out again,
rewash it, and put it back on the altar filled with clean fresh water.
It is important to set up and maintain your fountain properly. This is not
the time to start doing magical works, or psychic readings and the like. This
is the time to settle in and build the foundations of your practice. If you skip
over these important steps, it will be very noticeable to experienced
espiritistas.
BUILDING A FOUNDATION
People beginning on a spiritual path are often excited “to get to the good
part.” This is very understandable, especially for those who have been
trying to figure things out on their own. If you have just encountered the
spiritual realm, or even if you've been involved for some time, it can be an
extremely exciting and wonderous world that contains many new and
interesting things to learn and explore. But you will have plenty of time to
get to that. And you can't build your faculties or develop your abilities
without a good foundation.
Without a proper foundation, spiritual practices usually cause more
issues and problems than they correct. Working with spirits or magic before
you are ready creates karma and effects that you may not be ready to deal
with. This can often become a source of causas and create more problems
than you had when you started. In fact, it often creates causas that can take
years to unravel and work through, preventing you from achieving success.
The way to avoid this is simple: Get a mentor and don't start without a
proper foundation.
