Those who are not brujos can go to one to have a protection given or<br />
made. In this case, the brujo either prepares an item that has a protective<br />
spirit attached to it, or links a protective spirit with the person's cuadro. In<br />
either case, the person must attend the spirit or have the espiritista attend it<br />
on their behalf in order to keep the protection active.<br />
Brujos may also prepare a special item that has been made for<br />
protection, known as a resguardo. In this case, the item creates an actual<br />
bubble of protection around the bearer. Some resguardos are prepared as<br />
potions or teas for clients to drink. These protections only last for a certain<br />
amount of time, however, before they must be remade or recharged like a<br />
battery.<br />
If you need to reverse a spiritual attack, a brujo can do that for you as<br />
well. Brujos can send negativity back to the sender without risk of being<br />
attacked themselves. This does not act as a curse, however, as they are<br />
simply sending back what was sent to you. Some brujos do use curses, but<br />
most do so only when they feel it is justified. It really depends on the brujos<br />
and their cuadros. Most brujos, however, do not take cursing lightly,<br />
because it can ruin someone's life or go on for a long time.<br />
THE POWER TO SEE<br />
The most powerful of all protections is la vista, the sight. Ironically,<br />
however, most people lose sight of this. La vista is the espiritista's power to<br />
see what is going on spiritually and communicate with the spiritual world.<br />
La vista can protect you more than anything else and help you navigate the<br />
waters of life. It can warn you of danger or tell you to go a different way. It<br />
can tell you what to do when you have an issue or problem, and it can direct<br />
you toward luck and open pathways.<br />
The faculty to see is what espiritistas work on most consistently when<br />
they develop la luz and their cuadros. Perceptions and reality don't usually<br />
match, and espiritistas work to remove the framework of perception in<br />
order to be able to see reality more and more clearly. By being able to see<br />
through the layers of energies, they are guided and shown where to go and<br />
what to do.<br />
La vista is not easy to develop, however, and it is easy to fall into the<br />
