Elephant Jungle Sanctuary is an ethical and sustainable eco-tourism<br />
project. Founded in July 2014, it began as a joint initiative between<br />
members of the Karen hill-tribes of northern Thailand and Chiang Mai<br />
locals who were concerned about the welfare of elephants in Thailand.<br />
Initially, Elephant Jungle Sanctuary was comprised of a single<br />
location, three rescued elephants, a handful of staff members,<br />
and dedicated Mahouts (elephant caretakers). Since then,<br />
we are grateful to have attained the support necessary to<br />
develop our project significantly. EJS currently cares for<br />
elephants at locations in four provinces throughout<br />
Thailand: Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, and Samui.<br />
Our hope is to lead by example and contribute to a<br />
positive change in the perception of elephants.<br />
We want to witness a future where elephants<br />
are not poached, ridden, overworked, or<br />
abused and are instead treated with<br />
the care, love, and respect they truly<br />
deserve.<br />
