What obstacles did you face<br />
during Covid pandemic?<br />
The Phuket Governor gave us just 24<br />
hours’ notice that all resorts would<br />
close. We needed to find a team to “live<br />
in”, and somehow cater to their needs<br />
without moving around the island!<br />
Once reopened, the government<br />
offered subsidies for domestic<br />
tourism, so we developed packages to<br />
generate some income.<br />
What does the future hold for the<br />
‘AKSARA Collection?<br />
AKSARA Collection has finally been<br />
able to re-open all our properties<br />
and with 533 keys to get filled up is<br />
a challenge is ahead as new merging<br />
markets have been able to develop<br />
themselves over here in the wake of<br />
the pandemic era.<br />
What advice would you give<br />
to anyone start in the hotel<br />
industry?<br />
It’s a “way of life” rather than a “job” so<br />
expect long hours and a diverse range<br />
of tasks. You could go from making<br />
breakfast because the cook failed to<br />
show up, to presenting next year’s<br />
budget to the board... All in one day.<br />
The most rewarding part is that you’re<br />
a ‘dream-maker’. We don’t always<br />
know why guests come to stay with<br />
us, so remember “guests who arrived<br />
a guest, go home as friends”.<br />
