Hungary
From there we continued our journey to Budapest, Hungary, where
we were going to attend a travel convention. When we arrived at
Budapest, we marveled at the majestic city straddling the romantic
Danube River and the bridges separating Buda from Pest. As
usual, the Hungarian Tourist Board planned an incredible program
for thousands of members of the travel industry that were attending
the convention. We visited the statue of Gellert Hill that
commemorates the liberation from the Nazis forces after World
War II; Buda Castle where we witnessed a horseback riding
performance by the military guards, which was absolutely
phenomenal; Heroes’ Square that typifies the modern capital, and
along the river bank we saw old inns and wine cellars; the
Parliament building, Fishermen’s Bastian; and the Matthias
Coronation Church. Before we left Budapest, I purchased an
embalmed pheasant on a perch that is displayed in my office on a
wall.
Austria
After the convention, Deodete and I traveled to Vienna on the
famous Orient Express train, an unforgettable journey. We arrived
in Vienna, one of the best known and loved Europe’s capitals of
classical music. We visited the Parliament, splendid baroque
palaces and finally the inside of the House of Strauss, one of my
favorite composers. The highlight of our trip was to attend a
concert of the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra in the rooms of the
Imperial Palace, where it was delightful to see and listen, in
person, a magnificent performance by musicians playing mainly
Strauss and Mozart.
We continued on our Austrian tour to Salzburg where the famous
movie, Sound of Music, was filmed. We visited the historical
