ackyards of the houses that were totally surrounded by active hot
springs. We watched a man cutting the lawn in front of his yard.
He was forced to maneuver around the hot springs as if they were
shrubs or decorative pieces placed in his yard. It was an
experience. I also cannot forget going to a massage spa, of an
oriental architecture and being hosted by beautiful oriental young
ladies. After changing to a bathing suit, we encountered 4 beautiful
pools with different designs and water falls. Each pool was heated
by geothermal energy and each had a different temperature that
ranged from 60º to 90º. We changed from pool to pool for an hour,
as preparation for an unbelievable massage. Again, I stopped,
looked at my wife and said, “Can you believe this?” It was a
fantastic treat… We have gotten massages in many parts of the
world, but nothing compared to the one in Rotarua that we will
never forget! To finish our trip to New Zealand we had to travel to
Auckland, the largest urban city in New Zealand, of just over a
million people. It is the center of commerce and industry. In fact
Auckland is the biggest Polynesian city in the world. Its nickname
is the city of sails, because it has more boats per capita than
anywhere else in the world and probably the reason why they took
away the Americans Cup championship from our neighboring city
of Newport, Rhode Island a few years ago. To end this chapter, I
like to tell my friends and readers, who dream of traveling to
Australia, that they should definitely include New Zealand on their
itinerary. It is one of the most beautiful places that we have ever
visited.
Fiji Islands
From New Zealand, we travelled to Suva the capital of Fiji, on our
return to Los Angeles. The Fiji Islands is an archipelago in the
South Pacific that became independent from United Kingdom in
1970. It’s a beautiful island with nice beaches and beautiful
scenery. We were very surprised about its history which talks
