center, a beautiful city replete of outside cafes that serve fantastic
pastry and espresso. We sat and enjoyed watching the people
strolling by. We walked to Getreidegasse, where we visited the
house where Mozart was born. Salzburg is a charming city, full of
green hills and romantic gardens. Although a small city, it is
among the busiest places of Europe all year round.
Germany
For our visit to Germany, we flew into Munich, the Bavarian
capital situated at the foot of the Alps. We visited the Olympic
Park, site of the 1972 Olympic Games and Marienplatz, the most
scenic square of the old town, located in the heart of the city,
where we saw the large ornate clock that is comprised of many
bells and life-size figures depicting medieval music and dancing,
and reflects pieces of Bavarian history. From Munich, we travelled
on a bus tour to Innsbruck, the enchanting Capital of the Alps,
where the 1976 Winter Olympic Games were held. We returned to
Munich to spend another night and left in the morning to go to
Nuremburg, where we visited the world renowned Justice Palace,
where the Nazis were tried for war crimes committed during World
War II at the International War Tribunal.
We continued on our tour of Germany to Oberammergau, where
we stayed three days and watched an unforgettable performance of
the Passion Play. We were very lucky because the play is only
performed every 10 years, and we were there in the year 2000. The
play is the reenactment of the life and death of Jesus Christ and
features hundreds of performers, musicians and designers. It was a
breathtaking experience that we will never forget!
Berlin Wall, separating East and West German - Deodete and I
decided to take a trip to East Berlin that was controlled by the
Soviet Union after the erection of the Berlin Wall in 1961. We
