COVER STORY Museum Productions In 2017, a new branch of the museum was established called Museum Productions. This new department is dedicated to all areas regarding multi-media. The production department publishes at least one new book a year, but more importantly, it is responsible for documenting and recording the pioneers of the arts in their new “Biography” series. Headed by Matsuda, a biography of each icon is recorded, highlighting their historical contribution to the arts and their life history. The Gerald Okamura Biography was the first film project, and there are over 20 biographies now completed. “We are not getting any younger, and it is so important that martial arts history be remembered for this and future generations,” says Matsuda. Museum Productions plans to use these documentaries as part of their research library for visitors to enjoy in the museum’s Hall of Fame section. Conclusion “The Martial Arts History Museum, I know, will be the only museum for the martial arts. I say this without reservation. It has taken an unlimited amount of time and especially finance and 21 years, to make it a success. The museum had to be able to stand on its own so that when I pass, the museum will continue for many generations,” says Matsuda. The Museum Tells the Stories of Our Martial Arts Giants for Generations to Enjoy As Cecil Peoples so accurately put it, “I want my great-grandkids to one day see what their great-grandfather did.” Nothing that is worth doing has ever been easy. But like they say, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
