Andrew M. Gordon, PhD is Professor of Movement Science <strong>and</strong><br />
Neuroscience & Educations <strong>and</strong> Director of the Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>Cerebral</strong><br />
<strong>Palsy</strong> Research at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York<br />
City . He received a B .A . in Cognitive Psychology <strong>and</strong> Physiology from<br />
Hampshire College, an M .S . in Kinesiology from Pennsylvania State<br />
University, a Ph .D . in Neurophysiology <strong>and</strong> Pediatrics from Karolinska<br />
Institute (Stockholm, Sweden), <strong>and</strong> completed a postdoctoral fellowship<br />
at the University of Minnesota Medical School . He has served on<br />
the <strong>Academy</strong>’s Research <strong>and</strong> Awards Committee . For more than 5<br />
years his research has focused on the neural mechanisms underly-<br />

ing sensorimotor impairments in children with cerebral palsy, <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>for</strong> the last decade he has been translating findings from this basic<br />
research into the development <strong>and</strong> testing of novel rehabilitation<br />
strategies in this population . Most recently, Drs . Gordon <strong>and</strong> Charles<br />
have developed an intensive bimanual training protocol <strong>for</strong> children<br />
with hemiplegia, H<strong>and</strong>-Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy (HABIT) . Dr .<br />
Gordon has more than 80 publications in leading journals including<br />
Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, Pediatrics, Brain <strong>and</strong><br />
Journal of Neurophysiology .
