Andrew M. Gordon, PhD is Professor of Movement Science and
Neuroscience & Educations and Director of the Center for Cerebral
Palsy Research at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York
City . He received a B .A . in Cognitive Psychology and Physiology from
Hampshire College, an M .S . in Kinesiology from Pennsylvania State
University, a Ph .D . in Neurophysiology and Pediatrics from Karolinska
Institute (Stockholm, Sweden), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship
at the University of Minnesota Medical School . He has served on
the Academy’s Research and Awards Committee . For more than 5
years his research has focused on the neural mechanisms underly-

ing sensorimotor impairments in children with cerebral palsy, and
for the last decade he has been translating findings from this basic
research into the development and testing of novel rehabilitation
strategies in this population . Most recently, Drs . Gordon and Charles
have developed an intensive bimanual training protocol for children
with hemiplegia, Hand-Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy (HABIT) . Dr .
Gordon has more than 80 publications in leading journals including
Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, Pediatrics, Brain and
Journal of Neurophysiology .
