To gain a basic underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the results <strong>and</strong> side effects of medications used to help children successfully function in their environment . Target audience: Physiatrists, Developmental Pediatricians, Nurse Practitioners, <strong>and</strong> Therapists . Course summary: Definitions, background statistics, <strong>and</strong> pathophysiology of brain injury will be discussed . Primary <strong>and</strong> secondary injury will be reviewed as well as neuropsychologic impairments . Both pharmacologic <strong>and</strong> non-pharmacologic options will be discussed with the majority of the time spent on pharmacologic interventions . Emphasis will be placed on limiting polypharmacy to decrease side effects . A medication checklist will assist in narrowing <strong>and</strong> prioritizing the focus of treatment .
