A Beloved Delray Beach Mural is Revived!
The “Dancing Pineapple” mural on the Chloe Building
located at 135 E. Atlantic Ave. is regaining new life
after more than a decade, as “Pineapple Paradise”. The
original mural was painted by Anita Lovitt in 2008. In 2022,
after water damage, the wall needed to be reconstructed
along with window replacements. The mural location serves
as gateway to the Pineapple Grove Arts District along NE 2nd
Avenue north of Atlantic Avenue.
Glayson LeRoy, owner of Galera Collective’s, collaborated
with Chloe building owner, Lee Cohen, to revive the beloved
mural. Both Glayson and Lee are long time Delray Beach
residents and contribute to the City’s Arts & Cultural scene.
Glayson partnered with another Delray Beach original,
seasoned abstract graffiti-mural artist, Marcus “Grabster”
Borges. Grabster, whose artwork is known throughout South
Florida and internationally, is inspired from decades of
independent study creating eclectic, colorful, dynamic, and
skillful murals.
The new, “Pineapple Paradise” iconic landmark mural will
be 30% larger than its predecessor and it reflects Delray’s
subtropic feel, thriving flora and fauna, and scenes of boats
sailing offshore in the nearby Atlantic Ocean.
“The opportunity to collaborate with exceptional
developers like Lee Cohen on this esteemed project for my
hometown is a profound honor. He recognizes the dedication
and hard work I’ve invested into Delray Beach’s public art
scene,” states Glayson LeRoy, “In addition my coordination
with Josh Abrams of the 324-development project at 3rd &
3rd, concurrently producing the latest street level murals by
Quake, that will enliven the Arts Alley Arts District.”
