Delray Beach Awarded Blue Flag Designation
I’m thrilled to share that our City’s beach was awarded a coveted
Blue Flag designation by the Foundation for Environmental
Education, an international achievement given to beaches that
meet stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility
criteria. The Municipal Beach between Casuarina Road and Laing
Street is one of the first two Blue Flag designations awarded to
beaches in the continental United States.
I am especially grateful for our dedicated city staff, who have put
so much effort into ensuring that our shoreline is safe and accessible
and that beachgoers are educated about the City’s conservation
initiatives.
Happy Pride Month!
Happy Pride Month, Delray Beach! This month, we commemorate
the 1969 Stonewall Riots that started the LGBTQ+ pride movement.
On June 10, 2023, celebrate with us at the City’s Pride Festival in
Pineapple Grove starting at 4 p.m., and Concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Old
School Square Pavilion. This free annual event features food trucks,
vendors, live entertainment, a pet costume contest, and more.
If you’re out and about, stop by the Pride Streetscape in the heart
of the Pineapple Grove Arts District at the intersection of NE 2nd
74 | June 2023 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Avenue and NE 1st Street. The streetscape represents our city’s
commitment to diversity, inclusion, and visibility.
Most importantly, let this month serve as a reminder to be kind to
others and help ensure Delray Beach remains a welcoming place for all.
Hurricane Season is Here- Prepare Ahead
of a Storm
Hurricane season started June 1st and runs through November 30.
Don’t wait for a storm to be on the horizon; now is the time to prepare.
• Make your hurricane kit: You should have enough water, nonperishables,
medications, and equipment like flashlights and batteries
for seven days.
• Prepare your home: Trim trees and branches and secure loose
items.
• Prepare your boat: Decide now where you’ll move or store your
boat.
• Sign-up for emergency alerts: Register for the City’s CodeRed
alerts to receive emergency notifications via phone, email, and text
message.
