STAGES 1 & 2
ROSENFORS
O-Ringen 2024 opens with a long
distance competition on Stage 1
and middle distance on Stage 2 in
Rosenfors. Rosenfors is located inland,
to the west of O-Ringen City. Arriving
on the stage bus, you get dropped off
at Rosenfors IK’s home ground, just a
few hundred metres from Rosenfors
Arena. It will be a classic O-Ringen
arena in a large meadow, where careful
orienteering is needed all the way to
the last control.
By the fertile valley where the rivers Emån
and Stångån almost meet, Småland’s hills
rise up to the north west.
Stages 1 and 2 are on the east of the valley,
with some larger hills, and mostly good
runnability and visibility. The terrain is characterised
by areas of detail, with many rock
features. There are not many paths or tracks
in the terrain, which has at times made
setting the easiest courses more difficult. We
have created some new paths to be able to
make these courses as good as possible.
Stage 1, Long distance
Stage 1 starts to the south east of the arena
for the shorter and easier courses, in a
vaguer part of the map. There are paths and
tracks to begin with and then some felled
areas, fields and meadows towards the end,
before the final meadow and the finish.

difficult, shorter and longer legs.
• Nice terrain, fun orienteering.
• Tough terrain, quite slow going.
many boulders and crags. The fast, open terrain
with good visibility is in places swapped
for felled sections and denser areas, with
reduced visibility and runnability. Between
the hills and up on their tops, clear areas of
marsh can be useful for navigation. Most
courses finish in a very detailed area with
boulders, crags and smaller hills, then it’s
just a case of running through the meadow
to the finish.
Stage 2, Middle distance
The route to the start on Stage 2 passes
northwards through Rosenfors village.
Shorter and easier courses will use an area
with few paths and many details close to the
paths. All courses finish through the same
area. Longer and more technical courses
start up on the big hill which dominates
the competition area, where the terrain is
runnable, with good visibility. Like on Stage
1 there is a lot of detail but towards the end
of the courses there is even more, and both
runnability and visibility are more limited in
places. Remember to stay focused as you run
down the hill on the approach to the finish.

there is a lot of detail.
• The courses have a good difficulty
level. It’s good that they don’t just
rely on direction changes all the
time, like some planners do. This
terrain is demanding enough as
it is.
• Fun and challenging course, good
consistency.
