GUNNARSÖ
Now it’s time to move to the sea and
Gunnarsö Arena for a long distance
race. If you are staying at the O-Ringen
campsite or in Oskarshamn, we recommend
cycling to the arena – it’s less
than 5 km. If you don’t have a bike with
you and the walk is a bit too far, there
will be buses from Döderhultsdalen.
Now we’re by the sea on the Småland coast
and the typical coastal terrain is much less
hilly than Stages 1 and 2.
The terrain is characterised by large areas
of pine forest with open rock, detailed hills
and marshes of all sizes, which form natural
boundaries between the open rock areas and
small hills. Shorter and easier courses stay in
the area closest to the arena, in terrain with
a lot of paths winding their way between the
marshes, small hills and up over the bare
rock, where they can sometimes be a little
unclear. Make sure you look up to see where
the path continues on the other side. Longer
and more technical courses have a bit more
climb and the terrain has fewer paths, with
lots of detail to make the orienteering more
difficult, especially near the old sea inlet in
and around the nature reserve Sjöboviken,
which is crossed using bridges. The courses
finish though the area close to the arena
with many paths. If you look up when you
finish, you will see the blue water of Östersjön.
If it’s a nice day, taking a dip in the sea
might be the perfect way to finish your race!

Det finns flera studier som försöker reda ut varför människor har olika
förmåga att orientera sig i omgivningen. Till viss del kan förmågan vara
medfödd och till och med vara påverkad av ett visst hormon. Andra studier
har funnit att det är individuella egenskaper och anlag som hjälper till. Att
kunna tänka i väderstreck, vinklar och hitta kännetecken i omgivningen. Vi
tycker gott att lokalsinne även kan beskriva förmågan att kunna läsa av och
hitta rätt i lokalsamhället. Att förstå sammanhang, diskutera och hitta
markörer för att kunna orientera sig i allt det som händer. Oskarshamns-
Tidningens dagliga utgivning bidrar till att träna lokalsinnet.
Under sommaren 2024 kommer besökare och deltagare i O-Ringen att mer
eller mindre inta Oskarshamn. Vill du presentera budskap för både dessa och
