Futurity Report - Hothorpe
Breeder Emily Renshaw explains:
“Here at Buntingfields Farm I am in the
early years of a small breeding
operation, currently only breeding 2 or
so foals a year. Buntingfields Elvis 25 is
a super smart and brave colt, fiercely
independent, and full of presence. He
shares many of the same attributes as his
full sister who is now owned by Geoff
Billington.
“Elvis’s dam is by the prolific stallion
Eldorado van de Zeshoek and their
attitudes and characters, plus scope and
movement are outstanding. Couple that
with the movement, athleticism, scope
and ride-ability of his Sire Christian 25,
the model of Elvis is exactly what I was
hoping for. I hope to be able to slowly
expand my breeding set up, including
Elvis’ bloodlines along the way, to breed
the best foals possible, with the top end
of the sport in mind.
“Elvis has already become a firm yard
favourite, his good nature, gorgeous
looks, and outstanding paces
hopefully lay the foundations for an
exciting future!”
The highest scoring Yearling of the day
across all disciplines was the Beaumont
Wildcat by Woodlander Wavavoom out
of a Don Frederico mare. He was bred
by Rachel Crook and is owned by Claire
Bailey.
Beaumont Wildcat
Rachel tells us about his breeding:
“Beaumont Wildcat is out of a
Hanoverian Elite mare called Delta Lady,
by Don Frederico out of an Imperio
mare. He was a repeat breeding as I
was so impressed with his full brother
Beaumont Watteau, who was the highest
scoring dressage colt foal at the Futurity
2 years before. “Walter” is slightly more
refined than his full brother but has a
lovely frame and a great temperament.”
The highest eventing score across
all ages at Hothorpe of 8.475 was
achieved by the colt foal Hope House
Manhattan by Big Star out of an Argento
mare.
Hope House Manhattan
Breeder Amelia Hope Waterhouse
explains
“I competed Manhattan’s dam Milton
Mojito who is by Argento out of a Metall
mare myself. She showed huge amounts
of talent as a young horse and was
aimed at the Young Event Horse
Championships previously held at
Osberton. Sadly due to injury her career
was cut short going into her 6-year-old
season. Milton Mojito was a serious
athlete with natural elasticity and power
combined with beautiful movement from
her damsire Metall.
“His sire, Big Star, needs no introduction
being double Olympic gold medalist!
We put a lot of research into selecting
stallions each year with conformation,
soundness and jumping ability being at
the forefront of our breeding goals. We
felt Big Star could perfectly compliment
what Milton Mojito already has to offer
and the combination of these bloodlines
felt rather special. Needless to say we
are very pleased with the outcome. This
year we have rebred her to the late
Numero Uno for a full sibling to our
2022 foal, however we will definitely be
looking at using Big Star again.
“Hope House Manhattan has such
natural power and balance, we are sure
he has a big future ahead of him and
can’t wait to see him progress through
the levels in Showjumping.
“Hope House Eventing stud and
competition yard focuses on producing
horses from breeding to breaking in and
then onto the young horse classes. All of
our 2022 foals were also awarded Gold
Premiums last year. We are delighted to
be producing such quality in only our
third year of breeding.”
The top scoring 4yo across all
disciplines with a Gold Premium of 8.35
was dressage bred Ginleys Gunpowder
by Myspires Fider Hit out of a Johnson
mare, bred by James Boulton at Ginleys
Stud.
Ginleys Gunpowder
His owners Vanessa and Josephine
Clewlow has great plans for him:
“We bought ‘Waldo’ when he was 5
months old with the hopes of training him
to be a Grand Prix dressage horse. I saw
him in a Facebook post and really liked
his breeding and have been fortunate
enough to meet his dam and sire both of
whom have outstanding temperaments.
He has 4 of the top 10 dressage sires
in his breeding and his maternal grand
dam has competed to Inter 1 as well.
“He had an Elite Futurity evaluation as
a foal which highlighted his excellent
conformation and he was due to go on
the Elite auction. At the time I didn’t have
the funds to buy him and we watched the
hammer fall at the auction and thought
we had lost him. However, fate played
its part and he didn’t reach his reserve so
his breeder Ginleys Stud took him home
and we had the opportunity to purchase
him a few weeks later.
“He has been a joy to own and we have
loved getting to know him over the past
four years. My daughter, Josephine
(aged 20) has already produced her
current horse to Grand Prix level and has
backed him herself and we are really
looking forward to getting to know him
as a ridden horse and train him up the
levels.”
A gold score of 8.33 gained by
Edmund C, by Cero Blue TN out of an
Armitage mare, the accolade of highest
scoring showjumping yearling.
