Futurity Report - Hothorpe
His young breeder Emily Nicol explains:
“ I noticed Phantom Adamo’s sire for
the first time at the British Breeding
Stallion Show at the start of 2020. He
was only 4 years old at the time and
hadn’t been backed for long and I was
blown away at his composure and how
he remained so calm at such a young
age in an atmosphere like that. He’s a
truly beautiful horse with big movement
and I thought he would complement my
mare very well. Phantom Adamo’s dam
is an old fashioned type show jumper
with incredible balance and this was our
first foal out of her. He has been a real
head turner since day 1 - scoring a gold
award at Futurity as a foal - and he just
seems to be getting better and better!
I was so proud of him for how well he
behaved at Hothorpe, and he showed
off at just the right moment. He will be
backed next year and lightly produced
as an event horse at 4/5 years old while
his body is allowed to develop.”
The highest scoring 3-year-old across
all disciplines was the dressage bred
Fruitilicious CS by Franklin out of a
Woodlander Wild Child mare, bred by
Julia Wilkinson at Chadwells Stud and
owned by Caroline Watkin who gained
a score of 8.05.
Fruitilicious CS
A gold premium of 8.04 gained Elmiro
B the position of highest scoring eventing
4yo. This young stallion is by the great
Ramiro B out of a Florett AS mare and
was presented by Steven Smith.
Phantom Adamo
Says his breeder Lynn Robertson:
“‘Elio’’s dam Visage evented up to 2*
and was quite successful winning several
Novice classes before a field accident
ended her ridden career, ‘Elio’ is her 3rd
and last foal, the previous 2 are both
out eventing successfully with their new
owners.
“Elio has an outstanding temperament
which we believe alongside his loose
athletic paces, bold and scopey jumping
technique lend itself to him becoming a
very versatile stallion and also
competition horse himself. He will
continue to be quietly and correctly
produced with his future in mind over the
winter months and will make a start in his
dressage and showjumping competition
career before making his eventing debut
in the 2024 season.”
The top scoring endurance yearling of
the day was Knocksaul Dream Maker
by Wyevale Boomerang out of a Lindon
Scholar mare.
Knocksaul Dream Maker
Owner Tina Billingsley explains the
reasons behind her interesting choice of
using Cleveland Bays:
“I bought Dreammaker in utero because
of her breeding. The Cleveland Bays are
on the critically endangered breeds list.
She joined us at home at 6 months old.
“Since then she has shown successfully,
taking a first and then Reserve Supreme
Champion out of ridden and in hand at
Royal Windsor Horse show 2023. She
was 1st yearling sport horse at Herts
County Show. 2023, then Overall In
Hand Champion Cleveland Bay at the
National Cleveland Bay Show 2023
and then took Overall Supreme
Cleveland Bay Champion out of In Hand
and Ridden.
“She has a lovely temperament, but also
quite a bit of attitude and stubbornness!
She’s very sweet and always seems to
want to follow you or be near you in the
field.
We know she can jump, as at only 6
months old she jumped the 5 foot fence
into the next paddock. She has done it
again since so she is now within 6 foot
Stallion fencing in her fields.
“My aim for the future is to show Dream
Maker in Hunter breeding classes and
then ridden going forward. I will also
breed from her to help preserve the
Cleveland Bay breed.”
The highest scoring eventing yearling
was Margeuritte des Bois by Leprince
des Bois out of a Cruise on mare.
Margeuritte des Bois
His breeder Helen Hurford-Dawson is
pleased with her progress:
“Bright, elegant and gentle, 'Maggie
B' is a sweetheart to handle. We only
breed from mares with a performance
record. Her dam, Chelveston Lass,
evented with Sarah Bullimore, and was
always clear cross country. Her sire Le
Prince des Bois is the only 5 * eventing
stallion standing in the UK, ridden by
Kai Rudat for Sweden he was part of
the Swedish Olympic eventing team.
So Margeuritte des Bois will hopefully
follow in their footsteps with the same
success.”
