A Shot in the Dark!
By: Dianne Hahn / Back in the Days
We’re now one month into hanging a new
year on the line.
The time-honored
tradition of New Year’s resolutions is in
full force. Did you make any? How are they
going?
Every January I sit and ponder, then begin
to write. What are my goals? What do I need
to improve?
Easy to make the list, hard to struggle
through it! Looking in my rearview mirror,
I don’t believe I’ve ever gotten through a
whole year with all, or even most, of those
good intentions accomplished.
I’ve realized that resolutions aren’t my
thing. That said, this year my list consists of
one, and only one resolution
I’m not giving up on myself, but we’re all good at some things and
not very good at others. Apparently, I’m hopeless when it comes to
accomplishing those optimistic little resolves I’ve neatly listed in order
of importance.
Let’s see - I’ve vowed to shed the same twenty pounds…for the last
twenty years! My diet resolutions to eat healthier evaporate when I get
a whiff of freshly baked French bread or spot a batch of scrumptious
chocolate chip cookies!
I’m a goner! I’m serving a healthy kale
and quinoa salad for dinner, and bread
would be delicious with it! And really, how
bad could one (or even two) little crisp
chocolate chip cookies be? The bread and
cookies end up on my dinner tables!
Every year, I promise to improve my
housekeeping skills. By February I’m
pushing the dust motes under the sofa again!
I say I’m gonna hit the gym on a regular
basis, learn a new language, meditate daily.
I cut coupons to save. That lasts a month if
I’m lucky!
No, I’m finally tired of carrying the same
list over and over from year to year. I’ve
stopped writing. No more resolutions!
Oh wait! That’s a resolution, too. Isn’t it? Wonder how that one is going
to work out for me? A shot in the dark again, Ya think?
